SKETCHES AND STUDIES
opening Wednesday 27th Nov, 6 – 8 pm
An informed artist will tell you that “a good piece of artwork is more than an image”; yet these days the general consensus seems to be that working from a photograph is acceptable.
By working from the photograph one is denied a variety of subtle sensory delights; and experiences only the image.
The importance of working from life is revealed in the works of artists prior to the photograph. Their works express superior draughtsmanship, sensitivity, deft technique and inventiveness.
I create studies and sketches purely from the life model; allowing all I learn and feel to manifest itself in my abstraction works.
After finishing up 3 years at work, I took the last year off and worked fulltime on my artwork.
Originally painting figurative subjects, this last year has seen me start an intense exploration of a pure abstract practice. I continue to paint figurative works from the live model for purposes of painting exercise and to transfer acquired skills, feelings and moods across to my abstract pieces.
I present a collection of my sketches and studies here.
